High Availability/Disaster Recovery
t3Journal is a high availability solution for iSeries customers. The t3Journal product utilizes the remote journaling capabilities of OS/400 and builds on that capability to create a highly efficient, low cost and reliable means of providing near time backup of mission critical applications.
High availability solutions on the iSeries have traditionally been expensive to purchase, difficult to install and time consuming to administer--often not even delivering results end users are looking for. t3Journal is a new product which has been built utilizing the latest technologies included in the OS/400 operating system and greatly reduced the effort involved to create a high availability solution. While the product does not compare feature for feature with the well known enterprise offerings it does compare very favorably to the "lite" versions.
Many DR products are based on Save/Restore architecture requiring files to be freed up during system quiet times to properly perform the replication functions. Instead t3Journal utilizes remote journaling to place the journal receivers on the disaster recovery (DR) machine. This process requires a minimal amount of processor capacity, as most of the work is accomplished by the DR box as it applies the journals. Due to its use of the OS400, t3Journal has a minimal impact on operations of the production system. Asynchronous remote journal achieves near-time delivery and application to mirrored database without any impact on production system.
